Bekind Boys' Home

On January 16th 2012 Bekind Boys' Home (BBH) opened its doors for the first time to 20 vulnerable, underprivileged boys, who are orphaned, abandoned, destitute or living at risk on the streets or in the slums of Calcutta.

This event is the culmination of months of hard work and planning. The project is in association with the Hope Foundation, without whom we could not have contemplated such an undertaking. Hope’s homes are bursting at the seams and their waiting list for needy children is lengthy.

Here are some pictures of the home, the first of them taken at the end of November 2011 with the later ones taken on the official innauguration day of the home on April 4th 2012.

These children live full time in BBH. The boys each have their own bed, attend local schools, have a live-in house father, residential caregivers, a cook and the services of a councillor, as many of the boys come from traumatic backgrounds. It is our hope that this setting will be as close as possible to that of a "normal" family home environment.

Our budget to run Bekind Boys’ Home comes in at current exchange rates, just under €35,000 per year.

It is a substantial undertaking for us in the current climate but with some additional funds already pledged and a little more hard work we feel we can manage it.
